Brave New World

(David Essex – from Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of the Worlds’) – Huxley’s Terminal 5 Heathrow

A trip of firsts, my first BA flight for over twenty years (in a previous life I had a Silver BA Executive Club card) and my first flight from Heathrow’s Terminal 5. We were en route to Abu Dhabi to catch up with our son, Gaz, and whenever he flies from T5 he makes a point of breakfast at Huxley’s. So that’s where we decided to go.

Huxley’s is airside – after security – on the upper floor, on the north wall. It’s a sizeable restaurant with a brisk turnover of customers, as befits a restaurant whose customers are rushing between security and departure gate.

The greeter showed us to our table with rather too much cheer than might be considered appropriate for seven AM, and our waiter, again disconcertingly cheery and ‘matey’ (and that’s NOT a criticism) took our order. Poached eggs on toast for the missus, and the Great British Breakfast for me, with tomato juice and black, filter coffee.

Val enjoyed her poached eggs, perfectly cooked and with bright yellow yolks while I confess I couldn’t finish my breakfast!

Great English Breakfast - Huxleys @

Everything – the bacon, the sausage, black pudding, eggs, beans, hash browns, mushroom, tomato and toast – was delicious, there was just too much.

Even for me.

Bottomless filter coffee is a nice touch.

Gaz usually treats himself to a pre-flight Bloody Mary, but at 7am I just couldn’t face it.

Without doubt, the best food I’ve ever enjoyed at an airport.
