(Taylor Swift) – Lower Barn Farm, Wickford
A few friends have noticed my recent ‘Breakfast’ based writings, and have suggested suitable venues to explore.

Outside Lower Barn Cafe
Several people extolled the virtues of the café at the Lower Barn Farm garden centre, on the A129 between Wickford and Rayleigh, so I thought I’d give it a try.

Inside Lower Barn Cafe
Their ‘English Breakfasts’ sound good, always a good benchmark, but I was tempted to try the Huevos Rancheros. It’s not something you see on menus that frequently, I’d last enjoyed them in Key West – at a café that claimed (don’t they all) to have been ‘Papa’ Hemingway’s favourite.
So Huevos Rancheros it was to be.
Or more accurately Huevo, as there was just one egg, with a tortilla wrap, resting on a hot skillet of onions and peppers.

Huevo Ranchero
The waitress warned me that it would be hot.
And it was. Not spicy, but mouth scorching, blistering, magma heated hot!
In all honesty, a little more spice, a bit less heat and another egg would have made this a great breakfast. I’ll go back and try a traditional full English as, from the menu, they look to be better value.
Still, change from a tenner, not too bad.
