(Drake) – Red’s True Barbecue, Eccleshall Road, Sheffield
I have had mixed experiences of Reds.
So it was with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation that I suggested that some friends and I visit the Reds restaurant on Sheffield’s Eccleshall Road.
We arrived at about one thirty, it wasn’t overly busy – the Universities having ‘broken up’ a couple of weeks earlier.
We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. The décor is, unsurprisingly, ‘industrial chic’; fast becoming a cliché. Maybe in future I should highlight when restaurants and bars are not ‘industrial chic’.
We ordered our drinks ‘Election Fraud IPA’ – brewed for Reds by Leeds ‘Legitimate Brewery’. These were brought promptly and we ordered our meals, two ‘Feasts’ between three of us.
The Feast comprises “Baby Back ribs, premium Black Angus brisket, XXXL wings, sticky chicken, smoked sausage, and pulled pork. Includes sides: cornbread, buttermilk slaw, giant onion rings, pit beans, pickle mix, chopped salad and skin-on fries.”
Frankly, two portions were enough for three of us, all the food was well cooked, tender and tasty.
If one was to be picky, the chicken was a tad on the dry side, but the wide selection of chilli sauces more than compensated.
The soundtrack to our lunch included some vintage rock, AC-DC, Kansas and so on.
All in all a pretty good way to spend a Sunday lunchtime, and at about fifty quid including a couple of beers, not bad value.
