(BIlly Idol) – Hard Rock Café, Dubai Festival City
I celebrated my fiftieth birthday, with family, in the Hard Rock Café, Dubai.
In those days – 2007 – it was located in a building that resembled New York’s Empire State Building, down near Media City on Sheikh Zayed Road. The ‘old’ Hard Rock was demolished in 2009 and the glitzy new Hard Rock opened a couple of years later in Festival City.
So, on my recent trip to Abu Dhabi, Gaz and I took the bus to Dubai to investigate. I’m still counting this as my thirty fifth Hard Rock Café.
The first thing you notice – once you’ve navigated the Rock Shop – is that it’s huge, possibly the largest restaurant I’ve ever visited.
The second thing is that it’s glossy, very shiny and impressive, from the new glass cases that display the Rock memorabilia, to the huge screen and the Bose Professional sound system.
We were shown to our table, ordered some drinks and perused the menu.
We started with the Jumbo Platter which is, as far as I can tell, available in all Hard Rock Cafés.
Gaz ordered a club sandwich, while I tried the Guinness Bacon Cheeseburger, with extra Turkey Ham.
We should have been more cautious, we were blasted after the starter and while I managed to eat (and enjoy) the burger and bacon, I skipped the bun and the fries.
Gaz took his sandwich away in a ‘doggie bag’.
For the record, since 1971 I’ve never managed to eat dessert in a Hard Rock!
And… post script… there’s a new Hard Rock Café in the departures lounge at Dubai Airport, so that’s Thirty Six!
