(Simple Minds) – Bayt Al Nakeel – Dubai

I was doing a touristy day in central Dubai with Sue, who has lived in the Emirates for a few years.

View from the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa

We’d visited the viewing gallery at the Burj Khalifa, then headed over to the creek for lunch – not far from the bus station where I’d caught the bus to and from Abu Dhabi a few days earlier.

My friend had chosen Bayt Al Nakeel, located in a building that’s been on the creek since 1935.

Our seat was on the waterside, with a great view along the creek.

We didn’t need too much, and while the menu looked fascinating, we both decided to try the Chicken Biryani, with soft drinks.

We both agreed that the food was very tasty, a different ‘take’ on Biryani than others I’ve tried over the years, but tasty and enjoyable, with plenty of chicken.

And affordable, I think the main courses were about a tenner each.

For such a wonderful location we might have expected to have been ripped off, but we were pleasantly surprised.

Rating: ★★★★★

We then took an Abra (Water Taxi) across the creek, just 1 dirham each way, another bargain, and mooched the Spice and Gold souks.

I was pleased to see that Val’s favourite jeweller was still trading.
